For the first part of my college career, I was severely confused regarding the direction I would take for a degree. Initially, I wanted to be a doctor, then I decided I should be a nurse. However, shortly after that, I managed to end up in the Journalism department of the University of North Texas. I made the cut to be a reporter, however, I grew bored and decided to get my basics for Nursing school.

You are probably wondering why I am elaborating on my indecisiveness. Well, the truth is, I have no idea at the moment what I will achieve or hope to achieve. One day I want to be an Environmental spokesperson that fights against large corporations to end labor exploitation and brings awareness to how we are harming the Earth. The next day I want to be a major movie script writer in Hollywood. To say the least, it varies.

However, I have always imagined myself to be the Erin Brockovich type- standing up alone in a crowded room fighting for justice on behalf of those voices that are never heard. However, the bottom-line is that I want to make a difference. I do not want to sit around in a cube looking at four walls while the world goes up in flames. I want to show some people up. I am sick and tired of corporations getting away with labor exploitation. I am actually writing a paper that I hope to publish with Dr. Lynch about this very problem.

I want to live my life, mostly, I want to be happy and honest. And quite frankly, I do not believe I can be happy and honest by being another cog in a machine. I want to stand out from this machine we have created. I would love for another moment in 1964 history to be repeated in 2011. For example, I would love to have a Mario Savio moment and stand up for the people that are suffering form societal pressure through their careers, what they should look like and useless product purchases. I want to make a contribution like The Corporation documentary.

I suppose I shared with you what I hoped to achieve in communication, I just need to figure out how I will do it. We all need to do it. It is not a question of why, just watch the links above and you will understand. Ignorance is not bliss in the case of where our world is headed. We need to wake from our own slumber and we must refrain from being hypnotized by the media, products, and money.

  1. Interesting, edgy and a bit angry. I love it, and would love to help you find ways to go where you want to go. Hopefully, some of our speakers can serve this purpose this semester.
